G7 commits to boost Ukraine air defence and grant US production licenses

At the G7 summit in France, leaders pledged to strengthen Ukraine’s air‑defence capabilities by increasing the delivery of systems, interceptors and long‑range weapons. They also agreed to consider extending U.S. licences that would allow Ukraine to produce its own air‑defence equipment domestically.

President Volodymyr Zelensky, meeting with NATO officials and G7 leaders, reiterated the urgent need for faster anti‑ballistic missile deliveries and the importance of the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List. He thanked partners for the commitments and highlighted that the new licences are critical for protecting civilians and energy infrastructure.

The G7 statement added that sanctions on Russia’s oil and gas sectors will be tightened, and that the bloc supports the recent U.S.–Iran deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The leaders also called for a ceasefire in Lebanon and discussed critical mineral policies to reduce reliance on China.
