Trump and Zelensky meet at G7 summit as leaders pledge increased Ukraine aid

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he held a coordination talk with U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron after the G7 summit in Evian‑les‑Bains. Trump later claimed a “productive” conversation with Zelensky at the summit’s margin and added that he also spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying “something is about to happen.”

The G7 leaders issued a joint declaration reaffirming “unwavering support” for Ukraine, committing to boost air‑defence capacity, provide additional interceptor systems and consider extending U.S. licensing to increase Ukraine’s own weapons production. They also announced tighter sanctions on Russia, targeting its oil and gas sectors, and welcomed the U.S.–Iran nuclear‑deal agreement. The private meeting between Trump and Zelensky was the first face‑to‑face in four months and was described as “very positive,” with expectations of further technical talks.

Overall, the summit highlighted coordinated diplomatic and military support for Kyiv and increased pressure on Moscow, while also addressing broader geopolitical issues such as the Iran nuclear accord.
