G7 summit in France focuses on Ukraine war and Iran peace deal

Leaders of the Group of Seven gathered in Evian, France, where U.S. President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky participated in talks on ending the war in Ukraine and the recent memorandum of understanding that Trump announced with Iran, ending the three‑and‑a‑half‑month conflict between the two nations. Macron urged Trump to maintain strong support for Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia to achieve a peace settlement, while the summit also included a working session on Middle‑East stability with leaders from Qatar, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. Ukraine officially opened negotiations for European Union membership, marking a new step in its long‑term reform agenda amid the ongoing invasion.
