G7 Summit in Évian Unites on Ukraine Support, Calls for Tougher Russian Energy Sanctions

The G7 summit in Évian concluded with French President Emmanuel Macron describing it as "objectively successful". Leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, issued a joint declaration reaffirming unwavering support for Ukraine’s freedom, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The declaration also pledged tougher sanctions targeting Russian energy, reflecting European demands to increase pressure on Vladimir Putin. Macron said the summit marked a turning point, noting a "real change compared with the last few months" and a convergence between the United States and Europe. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy only managed a brief side‑conversation with Trump, and EU officials emphasized that the bloc will continue to back Ukraine rather than act as a mediator.
