Gabon judicial leadership undergoes major reshuffle

The Supreme Council of the Magistracy, chaired by Head of State Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, has implemented a major reshuffle of Gabon’s judicial, administrative, and financial benches following a session in Port-Gentil.

Key appointments include André Wora Alonda at the head of the Court of Cassation and Pamphile Moussavou Ibouanga at the Court of Auditors, succeeding Alex Euv Moutsiangou. Additionally, Alain-Georges Moukoko has been named prosecutor general of the Libreville judicial court of appeal. The leadership change at the Court of Auditors is particularly notable as the institution manages a significant financial dossier involving approximately 1,700 billion CFA francs in debts and fines.

The restructuring follows a disciplinary council on August 25, where ten magistrates faced proceedings and several were sanctioned or removed. Recent administrative decisions in Port-Gentil have also resulted in the removal of magistrates who previously led the August disciplinary council, a move that has raised concerns regarding judicial independence and institutional stability during the country’s transition period.
