Gabon launches Task Force to reform national football

A task force known as ‘Task Foot’ has convened in Akanda, near Libreville, to initiate a comprehensive reform of Gabonese football. Led by Sports Minister Paul Ulrich Kessany Zatéghé, the initiative aims to address critical challenges in governance, competition organization, and economic development.

The five-day summit, running from October 22 to 26, 2026, involves a wide range of stakeholders, including the Gabonese Football Federation (Fégafoot), professional and women’s national leagues, club officials, coaches, referees, and players. Discussions are organized into seven specialized workshops covering topics such as institutional organization, human development, marketing, financing, refereeing, and sports infrastructure.

To support administrative regularization, the event also includes the distribution of technical approvals and final receipts to clubs competing in the national first division. The proceedings are being coordinated by Léon Nzé Ababé, a former president of Fégafoot and current senator, alongside Olivier Youssouf Mbéra, the new Director General of Sports. The goal is to produce a concrete roadmap for restructuring the sport and ensuring more regular championship schedules.
