Gabon national football reform initiative

Overview

Gabon has launched ‘Task Foot’, a comprehensive reform process aimed at overhauling the nation’s football sector. Initiated by the Minister of Youth, Sports, Cultural Radiance and Arts, Paul Ulrich Kessany Zategwa, the initiative seeks to establish a strategic roadmap to improve governance, national competitions, and the sport’s economic model.

A five-day summit held in Akanda, near Libreville, involves various stakeholders including the Gabonese Football Federation (FEGAFOOT), national leagues, club officials, coaches, referees, and players. The process is organized into seven specialized workshops focusing on areas such as institutional organization, human development, marketing, financing, refereeing, and sports infrastructure.

In addition to structural discussions, the initiative includes the distribution of technical approvals and final receipts to clubs in the national first division to support administrative regularization. The ultimate goal is to produce legally applicable and financially sustainable recommendations to ensure more regular championship schedules and align the sport with international standards.
