Guinea President Mamadi Doumbouya Leaves for Greece, Army Pledges Loyalty

On 3 August 2026 President Mamadi Doumbouya departed Conakry for a private vacation in Greece with his family, the first time a Guinean president has publicly announced an annual leave. His flight, scheduled for 10 a.m., left after a three‑hour delay due to heavy rain, with senior officials—including Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah, Minister Amara Camara and army chief Ibrahima Sory Bangoura—present at Ahmed Sékou Touré Airport.

Following the departure, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Ibrahima Sory Bangoura issued a statement reassuring citizens of the country’s stability, reaffirming the armed forces’ “faithful and unwavering loyalty” to President Doumbouya, the Republic’s institutions and the Guinean people, and warning against misinformation during the president’s absence.
