Gabriel Sakellaridis defines New Left's political boundaries and alliances
Gabriel Sakellaridis, leader of the New Left, has outlined the party's framework for political cooperation within the Greek Left during a press conference at the Thessaloniki International Fair. Sakellaridis emphasized that any unity must be built upon political, ethical, and value-based criteria rather than mere consensus.
He established clear boundaries regarding SYRIZA, expressing suspicion toward its current leadership and citing the reasons for the 2023 split as still being active. He criticized SYRIZA's acceptance of neoliberal fiscal frameworks and distanced his party from the positions of Alexis Tsipras and ELAS. In contrast, Sakellaridis identified MeRA25 as a potential natural ally within the progressive sphere.
Sakellaridis noted that while the political disputes of 2015 should not be ignored, the Left must look forward to the challenges of 2026, 2027, and 2031. He stated that New Left would not avoid dialogue with any political interlocutor, provided there is substantive political content and personal credibility.
