Greek Left political alliance developments

Greek leftist political figures have recently clarified their positions regarding party alliances and potential cooperation with other political entities.

Gabriel Sakellaridis, leader of the New Left, established political boundaries for his party, emphasizing that unity must be based on ethical and value-based criteria. He expressed suspicion toward SYRIZA’s leadership and criticized its acceptance of neoliberal fiscal frameworks, while identifying MeRA25 as a potential ally.

Concurrently, Giorgos Siakantaris of the Greek Left Sympolity (EL.A.S.) addressed backlash regarding his comments on the rise of the far-right in Europe. While denying endorsements of a coalition between EL.A.S., PASOK, and the governing New Democracy party, Siakantaris asserted his political autonomy. He suggested that if a situation arose in Greece where cooperation with New Democracy was necessary to prevent far-right gains, such an option should be considered, though he maintained that the current government “must be defeated and not remain in power through the back door.”
