Gabriele Targhetta wins silver in pommel horse at World Gymnastics Championships
Italian gymnast Gabriele Targhetta secured a silver medal in the pommel horse final at the 2026 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam. Scoring 15.233, Targhetta finished just 0.067 points behind Armenia’s Hamlet Manukyan, who took the gold with 15.300. Armenia’s Mamikon Khachatryan earned the bronze with 15.000.
This achievement marks Italy’s first world podium in this specific discipline in 113 years, dating back to the 1913 Paris championships. It also ends a medal drought for Italian artistic gymnastics that had lasted since the 2021 Kitakyushu championships. Targhetta, the current European champion, dedicated his performance to his teammate Lorenzo Bonicelli.
The competition continues at the Ahoy Arena with final apparatus events, including women’s beam, men’s parallel bars, women’s floor exercise, and uneven bars.
