Italian artistic gymnastics international success

Overview

Italian gymnasts demonstrated strong competitive form during the late 2026 international season. At the World Challenge Cup in Paris, Gabriele Targhetta earned a silver medal on the pommel horse, while Carlo Macchini secured silver on the horizontal bar and Tommaso Brugnami won two bronze medals in the vault and floor exercise.

Following these performances, Gabriele Targhetta achieved further success at the 2026 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam. Targhetta won a silver medal on the pommel horse with a score of 15.233, finishing behind Armenia’s Hamlet Manukyan, who took the gold with 15.300. This result marked Italy’s first podium finish in that specific discipline at the World Championships since 1913 and ended a medal drought for the Italian artistic gymnastics squad at the world level dating back to 2021. Targhetta, the current European champion, dedicated his performance to his teammate Lorenzo Bonicelli.
