GAC Aion expands electric vehicle lineup with new models

Chinese automaker GAC is expanding its electric vehicle presence through its Aion sub-brand with two distinct model developments. In Argentina, GAC, represented by Avantek, has launched the Aion UT, a medium-sized electric hatchback. The model is available in two versions: the Elite, featuring a 44 kWh battery and 134 CV, and the Premium, which offers 204 CV and a 60 kWh battery. The Premium version includes advanced features such as autonomous braking, adaptive cruise control, and a panoramic sunroof.

Simultaneously, GAC is preparing the launch of the Aion Ray 7, a large electric sedan designed to compete with the Xiaomi SU7. The Ray 7 distinguishes itself by incorporating robotaxi technology from WeRide, utilizing 27 sensors, including a Huawei-supplied LiDAR and 4D millimeter-wave radars. While its autonomous capabilities are currently limited to urban environments and automatic lane changes, the vehicle features a 244 CV rear motor and CATL LFP batteries, providing an estimated range of 700 km (CLTC cycle). The sedan's suspension system was engineered with expertise from Alfa Romeo to ensure driving dynamics.
