GAC AION international electric vehicle expansion

Overview

Chinese automaker GAC AION is expanding its international presence through the rollout of various electric vehicle models. In Southeast Europe, the company introduced the AION V electric SUV and the AION UT hatchback in Romania and Croatia. The AION V is scheduled for production at the Magna Steyr plant in Austria starting in late 2025, while the AION UT has been in assembly there since March. Following the European expansion, GAC extended the availability of the Aion UT hatchback to Oceania. In New Zealand, the model is available with a 60kWh LFP battery, a 430km WLTP range, and prices starting at $39,990. In Australia, a more affordable variant is expected to launch by the end of 2026, aiming to undercut the current $31,990 starting price to compete with models like the BYD Dolphin. GAC has further extended its reach into the Nordic region through a partnership with Electric Way, an import company under the Sulland Group, to distribute brands in Norway and Denmark. The AION UT, specifically developed for European customers, is slated to arrive in these markets by mid-September. In Denmark, the model features a 60 kWh LFP battery and an estimated range of 430 kilometers, positioned to compete with the Volkswagen ID. 3. To build consumer trust, GAC offers an eight-year factory warranty, capped at 160,000 kilometers. In the United Kingdom, AION is preparing to launch the AION UT, with order books expected to open in September and deliveries starting in October. The vehicle is anticipated to be priced under £30,000 and features a 24-minute fast-charging capability from 30% to 80%. To support this expansion, AION has partnered with DHL Supply Chain to manage aftermarket parts logistics via a dedicated UK warehouse.
