Gadi Eisenkot emerges as political challenger to Netanyahu
Former Israeli Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the Yashar Party, is emerging as a prominent political challenger to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ahead of upcoming legislative elections. Eisenkot, a pragmatic centrist, is gaining popularity by positioning himself as a unifying figure in contrast to Netanyahu’s divisive political style.
In recent statements, Eisenkot has expressed strong opposition to including the Arab Ra’am party in any future government led by Netanyahu. He criticized Netanyahu’s management of Qatari financial aid to Gaza, describing the handling of these funds—which authorities suggest reached Hamas—as a “violation of trust and betrayal.” Eisenkot further accused the Prime Minister of being a “pathological liar” whose rhetoric undermines democratic institutions and national security transparency.
