Nepali Congress proposes major political reforms at 15th General Convention

The Nepali Congress is holding its 15th General Convention in Kathmandu, where party leadership is proposing significant structural and political reforms. President Gagan Thapa has called for increased transparency within both Parliament and the party, advocating for an environment where members can question leaders without fear of expulsion.

Thapa’s political report outlines several key commitments, including a pledge to contest future elections without pre-election alliances or seat-sharing arrangements to preserve the party’s identity. The report also proposes a primary election system to select candidates based on merit and integrity, a constitutional initiative to limit prime ministerial terms to two, and the establishment of a “shadow government” to monitor state activities.

In a separate development, Binod Chaudhary has announced his candidacy for the position of party vice-president. Chaudhary stated his goal is to integrate economic development into the political discourse and foster younger leadership to drive Nepal’s economic transformation.
