The Nepali Congress 15th General Convention in Kathmandu has transitioned from internal factional disputes toward a formal debate on structural reform and leadership elections.

The presidential race has evolved into a three-way contest. Incumbent Gagan Thapa, who assumed leadership following a Special General Convention triggered by the Gen Z movement, will face challengers Kishor Singh Rathour and Shyam Krishna Khadka.
While the presidency remains contested, other leadership roles have been settled. Bishwo Prakash Sharma was elected senior vice president, and Pushpa Bhusal was elected vice president under the women’s category. Competitive elections continue for several other positions, including nine candidates for two open vice president roles and multiple candidates vying for general secretary posts.
As the convention progresses, the party is conducting elections to select its new Central Working Committee. A total of 7,317 eligible general convention representatives are participating in the franchise. Thapa, who is running for re-election, stated that a primary objective is to regain approximately one million traditional voters lost during the March elections by addressing voter grievances through a renewed organizational approach.
