Galaxy Express 999 4K remaster to receive nationwide revival screening
To commemorate the 45th anniversary of its original release, the 4K remastered version of the anime film ‘Farewell to Galaxy Express 999: Andromeda Station’ is scheduled for a nationwide revival screening in Japan in December 2026.
Based on the original work by Leiji Matsumoto, the film is the second theatrical installment in the series. The story follows the protagonist, Tetsuro Hoshino, as he embarks on a journey through space aboard the Galaxy Express 999 to confront the ambitions of the Mechanized Empire. The plot involves themes of independence and the transition from youth to adulthood, featuring characters such as Maetel, Captain Harlock, and Queen Emeraldas.
The production features a notable creative team, including director Rintaro and animation director Kazuo Komatsubara. The voice cast includes Masako Nozawa and Masako Ikeda.
