Galicia and North Portugal push for Atlantic economic hub

The Confederación de Empresarios de Galicia (CEG) called for a joint strategy with the north of Portugal to turn their cross‑border eurorregion into a leading Atlantic economic pole. At the Baiona Business Forum, CEG president Juan Manuel Vieites highlighted the region’s more than 6.5 million inhabitants, strong economic activity and shared cultural ties, urging deeper cooperation on labour mobility, business internationalisation and joint access to EU programmes such as EURES and the Enterprise Europe Network.

Key proposals include building a high‑speed rail link between Vigo and Oporto, integrating the labour market through a Statute of the Cross‑border Worker, and consolidating the Atlantic corridor by leveraging the combined potential of ports and transport infrastructure. The initiative aims to boost competitiveness and attract new investment to the north‑west Iberian Peninsula.
