Galicia expands enotourism investment and wine distribution

Galicia is strengthening its strategic focus on enotourism following a 34.5 million euro investment. The regional tourism director, Xosé Merelles, recently met with representatives from the five major wine routes in Galicia—Monterrei, Ribeira Sacra, Ribeiro, Valdeorras, and Rías Baixas—to consolidate wine tourism as a key economic driver. The initiative aims to expand beyond simple winery visits by integrating landscape, gastronomy, and local heritage to attract visitors during off-peak seasons.

Data from 2025 highlights the sector's impact, with approximately 160,000 gastronomic tourists visiting Galicia, generating 764,000 overnight stays and 93.7 million euros in spending.

In a related development for the Spanish wine market, the Galician company Difersa & Primavinia has reached an agreement with the historic Portuguese winery Quinta do Vallado. Starting in September, Difersa & Primavinia will manage the importation and distribution of Quinta do Vallado's Douro Valley wines throughout Spain, targeting the hospitality, restaurant, and specialized retail sectors.
