Galicia extends preventive measures against bovine lumpy skin disease
The Xunta de Galicia has extended precautionary measures against contagious lumpy skin disease (LSD) in cattle for an additional month. The measures will remain in effect from October 1 to October 31, with the possibility of further extensions based on epidemiological developments.
Under these regulations, commercial cattle fairs, auctions, and markets are permitted but restricted to animals from Galician farms. Transport vehicles arriving from outside the region must be empty, clean, disinfected, and insect-proofed. Additionally, a 28-day official veterinary surveillance period remains mandatory for all cattle arriving from outside Galicia intended for live use, during which animals on the receiving farm will be held under precautionary immobilization.
The Consellería do Medio Rural emphasized that there are currently no registered cases of the disease within the community. Authorities also noted that the virus does not transmit to humans through direct contact or consumption.
