Galicia hosts traineras regatta in Ferrol and large swimming crossing in Vigo

The XVIII Bandeira de Traiñeiras Cidade de Ferrol opened on 1 August, featuring ten traineras from nine Galician clubs and one from Asturias. About 200 athletes will race a 5,553‑metre course on the Ferrol estuary, with trophies awarded after each heat.

On the following day, the Travesía a Nado de la Ría in Vigo will see 213 participants, including 18 elite open‑water swimmers and 175 popular‑category swimmers, covering a 3,700‑metre stretch between Moaña and Vigo. The event also offers a school‑aged category for children aged 9‑12, allowing families to watch the race from the O Con beach.

Both competitions are part of Galicia’s summer sports calendar, drawing local clubs, federated athletes and spectators to the region’s coastal waterways.
