Galicia launches childcare wage subsidies for fathers up to €3,700

The Galician government announced a programme offering subsidies of €1,700 to €3,700 to fathers who reduce their working hours to care for children. Applications open on Saturday and close on 24 August, with a total budget of €618,840.84 co‑financed by European funds.

The aid is awarded competitively, based on a points system until the budget is exhausted, and paid as a single lump‑sum. To qualify, the reduction must be at least 12.5 % of the work schedule and intended for the care of a child under three years, or a child under 12 with a recognised disability of 33 % or more. Eligible families include opposite‑sex couples (male parent), same‑sex couples (either parent), single‑parent households, shared‑custody families (the lower‑earning parent), and sole caregivers.

The reduction period applies from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2026, and household income must not exceed seven times the public income indicator.
