Galicia launches flu and COVID-19 vaccination campaign

The Xunta de Galicia is launching its seasonal immunization campaign against influenza and COVID-19, starting September 28 and running through December 31. A key feature of this year's strategy is the expansion of vaccination efforts within schools to improve access for the student population.

The campaign prioritizes high-risk groups, including individuals over 65, pregnant women, healthcare professionals, and people with underlying health conditions. Notably, the high-dose flu vaccine, previously reserved for those aged 70 and older, is being extended to include individuals between 65 and 69 years old.

In specific regions like Ourense, vaccination will take place in health centers, residences, and homes for immobile individuals. The schedule includes the start of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) immunization for infants on September 21, followed by flu vaccinations for children aged 6 months to 11 years on October 13. For children between 2 and 11, the intranasal vaccine will be the preferred option. Health authorities advise citizens to follow appointment protocols rather than arriving without a prior summons.
