Galicia pensioners see rising purchasing power while gender gap persists

In the coastal town of Vilagarcía de Arousa, average pensions rose 9.3% in purchasing power between 2020 and 2025, reaching €1,295.82 per month. The increase outpaced the 20% cumulative inflation rate, driven by the automatic CPI‑linked revaluation introduced in 2021.

Across the wider A Coruña comarca, the average pension stood at €1,321 in 2025, up about 5% from the previous year and serving more than 40,000 retirees. Despite overall gains, a pronounced gender gap remains: women receive an average €1,137 a month, roughly 24.4% less than men’s €1,504, with disparities varying by municipality (e.g., women in Betanzos earn €433 less than their male counterparts).
