Galicia presents 2027 budget with major healthcare investments

The Xunta de Galicia has presented its 2027 budget proposal, totaling 15,158 million euros, to the Parliament of Galicia. The budget includes significant allocations for healthcare and tax adjustments.

In the Vigo health area, the budget is set at 1,111.9 million euros, a 5.59% increase from the previous year. Key investments include 1.6 million euros for the emergency department at Hospital Álvaro Cunqueiro and 2.4 million euros for improvements at Hospital Meixoeiro, including a new mammograph and specialized units. Additionally, funds are earmarked for new health centers in Mos and Ponteareas.

The Pontevedra and O Salnés health area will receive 612.6 million euros, a 10% increase. This includes 55.2 million euros for the Novo Montecelo hospital project and 13.1 million euros for the completion of the Vilagarcía de Arousa health center.

The proposal also includes adjustments to the regional IRPF (income tax) for the first four brackets, a move that has drawn criticism from opposition groups like the BNG, who argue the impact for self-employed workers will be minimal due to inflation. The budget is scheduled for parliamentary debate and voting in mid-December.
