Galicia reinforces wildfire response with increased personnel and aircraft

The Xunta de Galicia has reinforced its firefighting capabilities this summer following a difficult period in 2025. The current deployment includes over 3,000 direct professionals from the Consellería do Medio Rural, supplemented by 280 contractors from the public company Seaga and various aerial media providers. When including personnel from central, provincial, and local administrations, the total force exceeds 7,000 people.

To bolster aerial response, the region has deployed 24 aircraft, consisting of 15 helicopters and nine planes, including four newly incorporated units. Despite this increase in machinery and personnel, the regional administration has declined to establish a specific ratio of staff per hectare of forest, arguing that the operation is “dynamic” and that resources must be able to move fluidly between districts and provinces based on immediate needs.
