Galicia to Cut Dependency Waitlist by 62% with New State Funding

The Spanish central government plans to transfer an additional €6.2 billion to the autonomous community of Galicia, allowing the region to reduce its dependency waiting list by about 62% – roughly 800 people – by the end of 2027 and to increase the number of beneficiaries by 15,900.

In Extremadura, 805 people died while waiting for dependency benefits between January and June 2026, out of 8,600 people on the regional waiting list. Nationally, the Observatorio Estatal para la Dependencia recorded 15,450 deaths in waiting lists during the same period and a total of 255,302 people awaiting resolution, reflecting a 21% drop from the previous year after a €1.756 billion budget increase.
