Galician wine regions begin record early grape harvests

Wine regions in Galicia are experiencing an exceptionally early grape harvest. In Ribeiro, the Viña Meín Emilio Rojo winery has launched what is described as the earliest harvest in the region's history, focusing on specific plots of the early-ripening Godello variety.

In Valdeorras, the harvest is set to begin on Thursday, August 13, also marking a historical precedent for the earliest start in the denomination's history. Initial collection will be limited to Godello grapes in the municipalities of A Rúa and Vilamartín de Valdeorras, including work at the Valdesil winery.

Other nearby regions are following similar trends: Ribeira Sacra has begun localized harvesting of Godello, and Monterrei is expected to advance its harvest by approximately one week, starting around August 20. While producers note that the grapes appear to be of extraordinary quality and higher quantity than last year, viticulturists remain watchful of weather conditions and potential rainfall.
