Galicia's health service to close around 10% of hospital beds this summer
The Galician Health Service (Sergas) announced it will close roughly 10% of hospital beds across public hospitals this summer, a slight rise from the 8.3% closed last year.
The plan covers all health areas except the Ourense, Verín and O Barco de Valdeorras district, which will retain 100% of its beds. The most reduced area will be Lugo, A Mariña and Monforte de Lemos, operating at 88% capacity; other districts will keep between about 90% and 96% of beds (Pontevedra & O Salnés 95.75%, A Coruña & Cee 90%, Ferrol 91%, Santiago de Compostela & Barbanza 90.9%, Vigo 90%).
The reduction reflects the usual seasonal drop in admissions and aims to guarantee quality care while accommodating staff vacations. All beds remain technically available for activation if demand rises.
