Galicia's Summer Food Festivals Celebrate Tuna in Burela and Record Octopus Dish in O Carballiño

The town of Burela in Galicia's Lugo province hosted its 35th annual Feira do Bonito on the first weekend of August (1‑2 August). The festival honors tuna, offering grilled tuna, stews, tapas and empanadas, alongside cultural exhibitions, concerts and traditional bagpipe performances on the port quay.

In the nearby municipality of O Carballiño, officials broke the world record for the largest octopus tapa, preparing 610 kg of octopus on a 5.37‑metre‑diameter plate that served roughly 1,800 portions. The event, organized by the local pulpeiras association and attended by deputy mayor José Castro, highlighted the region’s culinary heritage and set a new target for future editions.
