Galicia's total solar eclipse sparks free concerts organized by Deputación da Coruña

A total solar eclipse will be visible across the province of A Coruña on 12 August 2024, the first such event in Galicia since 1912 and not expected again until 2180. To mark the occasion, the Deputación da Coruña is hosting four free concerts in distinct locations: Luar na Lubre at Frouxeira beach in Valdoviño, Milladoiro on the Alameda de Esteiro in Muros, Treixadura beside the Lago das Pontes, and Susana Seivane on the promenade at Calafigueira in Fisterra. President and councilor Valentín González Formoso said the programme offers a historic opportunity for families to enjoy the eclipse together while promoting local tourism and cultural heritage. The concerts will begin at 21:30 h, after the eclipse observation, and are accompanied by safety‑glass distribution and educational activities on astronomical observation.

The initiative aims to combine music, science outreach and the natural spectacle, drawing thousands of residents and visitors to the province’s coastal and inland sites.
