Galicia's Xunta announces unequal IRPF tax cuts for 2027

Miguel Corgos, the Minister of Finance for the Xunta de Galicia, has acknowledged that the planned 2027 personal income tax (IRPF) reductions will result in unequal savings among taxpayers. Specifically, low-income individuals will see a smaller absolute reduction in tax compared to middle-income earners.

The measure, included in the 2027 regional accounts, involves a 0.25 percentage point reduction in the first four tax brackets. Corgos defended the move against criticism from the BNG and PSdeG parties, stating that the goal is to prevent inflation from increasing the tax burden on citizens. He noted that while it is impossible to completely neutralize the effects of rising prices, the administration aims to avoid profiting at the expense of Galician citizens.

Future tax relief remains contingent on the funding of public services. Corgos indicated that the Xunta will only consider further reductions once the necessary resources to maintain public services are guaranteed.
