Italian police suspend licenses of several venues for public safety

The Italian State Police and Carabinieri have repeatedly used article 100 of the Testo Unico delle Leggi di Pubblica Sicurezza (TULPS) to suspend the licences of public venues across the country. In Venafro, the Questore of Isernia, Luigi Peluso, ordered a seven‑day closure after a violent brawl on 29 July spilled onto the street. In Arzachena, a 15‑day suspension was imposed following repeated assaults, including an incident involving a cutting weapon. Gallarate saw two separate actions: a minimarket was closed for seven days after a violent escape and fight involving a repeat offender, and a bar faced a similar shutdown after a woman assaulted the owner and his father. In Frosinone, a venue was shut for 20 days after police, the Guardia di Finanza and local police uncovered drug possession, a knife, and multiple patrons with criminal records. The Baretto dell’Arzilla was ordered to close for three days after minors were served alcohol and capacity limits were exceeded. All measures are described as preventive, aimed at protecting public order and citizen safety rather than punishing owners.
