Italian venue safety enforcement actions

Entities: Italian State Police · Varese · Albanian fugitive · Luigi Peluso · Gallarate

Overview

In late June 2026 a coordinated night operation (20‑21 June) by Carabinieri units along the Adriatic coast led to the immediate suspension of an agriturismo for serious hygiene, fire‑prevention and workplace‑safety breaches and a fine of €20 000. The same weekend, State Police and health‑prevention officers on Ventotene imposed comparable penalties on several businesses for missing safety devices, inadequate signage and an unauthorized public dance event.

The enforcement drive continued in July. On 14 July the Guardia di Finanza seized the Tenuta L’incanto agriturismo in Vico Equense after uncovering more than fifty building‑code violations that transformed a modest farmstead into a large hospitality venue, straining local infrastructure. Two days later, on 16 July, State Police in Foggia province ordered a ten‑day licence suspension for a popular bar in Vieste following a firearms incident and its use as a meeting point for convicted individuals. In Ozzano dell’Emilia, a public venue hosting a temporary event was likewise suspended for missing fire‑prevention staff, extinguishers, load‑suspension documentation, marked escape routes and sanitary facilities.

The pattern broadened in early August. Using article 100 of the Public Security Code, police and Carabinieri shut down venues in several towns: a seven‑day closure in Venafro after a violent brawl; a 15‑day suspension in Arzachena following assaults with a cutting weapon; two separate closures in Gallarate after repeat‑offender fights; a 20‑day shutdown in Frosinone after the discovery of drugs, a knife and multiple patrons with criminal records; and a three‑day closure of the Baretto dell’Arzilla for serving minors and exceeding capacity limits. These actions illustrate an ongoing, nationwide effort in 2026 to enforce stringent safety, public‑order and zoning standards across Italy’s hospitality sector.
