Galleri blood test detects over 50 cancer types in early stages

The PATHFINDER 2 study has demonstrated that the Galleri blood test can significantly increase the detection of various cancers, including those without established screening programs such as pancreatic, ovarian, and liver cancer.

Involving 32,007 participants, the study found that the test identified cancers in early stages, with nearly half of new detections occurring in stages one or two and nearly three-quarters in stages one through three. The test achieved a positive predictive value of 60.3% and a specificity of 99.64%. Additionally, the test correctly predicted the likely location of the cancer in 91.3% of cases.

The Galleri test utilizes machine learning algorithms to analyze circulating DNA fragments in the blood to identify cancer-specific chemical changes.
