Galleria Dom tunnel stabilization works to start Sep 2026 in Trentino

The Province of Trento will begin a 1‑year‑and‑4‑month stabilization project for the Galleria Dom tunnel on the SS240 between the Valle di Ledro and the Alto Garda area. The €4.10 million program allocates over €2.79 million for the construction phase, which will start between September and October 2026.

The work involves three stages: cement‑based injections to consolidate the roof, installation of a stainless‑steel mesh to secure the lining, and placement of about 600 tie‑rods (90 mm diameter, 18 m long) to reinforce the side walls. During the first five months the tunnel will be closed to traffic at night (approximately 22:00‑06:00) with emergency vehicles exempted. For the remaining eleven months traffic will run in a single‑direction alternating pattern controlled by smart traffic lights. Work will pause for Christmas, Easter and the summer holiday season, and continuous monitoring and safety signage will be maintained throughout.
