Galp completes Portugal’s north‑south ultra‑fast EV charging corridor

Galp has finished building an ultra‑fast electric‑vehicle charging corridor that runs the length of Portugal. The network spans the A1 and A2 motorways from Porto to the Algarve, linking eight service‑area hubs and offering 96 high‑power charging points with a combined capacity of 20 MW.

The final hub opened in Pombal, completing the 550‑kilometre route. The project, costing €6.1 million, was supported by Infrastructure Minister Miguel Pinto Luz, who highlighted the need for robust charging infrastructure as Portugal becomes the sixth European country in EV adoption. Galp Co‑CEO João Marques da Silva called the corridor a “fast, comfortable and reliable” solution for long‑distance travel.

Most of the chargers are Siemens 400 kW SiCharge units, produced at the company’s plant in Corroios, Portugal. The corridor aims to reduce range anxiety for drivers and bolster the country’s energy‑transition strategy.
