Gambia and Senegal presidents commit to deeper integration at Dakar council meeting

President Adama Barrow of The Gambia and President Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal co‑chaired the fourth session of the Senegalo‑Gambia Presidential Council in Dakar on 12 June 2026. The leaders reaffirmed historic ties and pledged intensified bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including infrastructure, energy, transport, security, border management, fisheries, agriculture, education, health, tourism and judicial collaboration. Barrow highlighted the Senegambia Bridge and joint transport services as concrete achievements that have boosted trade and mobility. Both presidents stressed the need to confront trans‑national challenges such as terrorism, irregular migration, food insecurity, climate change, organized crime and cyber threats through stronger partnership. The summit called for accelerated implementation of priority projects, removal of trade bottlenecks, greater private‑sector participation and the development of road, maritime and potential rail links to facilitate the free movement of people and goods. The presidents expressed gratitude for each other's hospitality and reiterated commitment to regional integration within ECOWAS, the African Union and the United Nations.
