Gambia IEC reports 1,694 objections to 2026 voter registration

The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of The Gambia has reported 1,694 objections following its 2026 supplementary voter registration exercise. The provisional list currently contains 212,095 registered voters, a figure that includes new registrations and administrative updates such as replacements and corrections for damaged cards.

Objections were highest in Wassu (or Wuli East) with 425 cases, followed by Mansakonko with 391 and Kerewan with 323. The IEC clarified that objections are only valid for voters registered during the 2026 supplementary exercise and cannot be made against those registered in 2021.

All processed objections have been linked to relevant claimant forms and are awaiting hearings by Revising Courts. Once the Chief Justice appoints the magistrates, the court will begin hearing the cases. The IEC stated it will serve notices to individuals whose registrations are being challenged and may deploy staff to communities to locate affected voters to ensure transparency before the register is finalized.
