Tensions rose as a UDP supporter’s social media video surfaced, threatening violence if election results were unfavorable, prompting warnings from human rights authorities.

Electoral transparency remains a primary flashpoint. The UDP and Gambia Democratic Congress have challenged the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) regarding discrepancies in the voter register. The UDP specifically requested a full reconciliation of supplementary registration figures to ensure credibility. In response, the IEC reported 1,694 objections to the 2026 supplementary registration, with the provisional list currently standing at 212,095 voters pending court hearings. Amidst these domestic tensions, the government also engaged in diplomatic dialogue with Senegal to resolve a recent border incident at the Bullock military camp.
