Gambia President Barrow Appoints Ousman Gomez as Chief of Defence Staff

President Adama Barrow confirmed Major General Ousman Gomez as the Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces, moving him from an acting role to a substantive appointment. The reshuffle also elevated Brigadier General Sait Njie to Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, reassigned Brigadier General Yaya Drammeh as Commander of the Gambia National Army, and recalled Colonel Alhagie Sanneh from his UN defence attaché post to become Commander of the Republican National Guards. All changes took immediate effect under the powers granted by Section 190(1A) of the 1997 Constitution.

The appointments restructure the three senior operational positions of the Gambia Armed Forces and place new leadership over the elite Republican National Guards, the unit tasked with presidential protection and key security responsibilities.
