GAMeC museum acquires Mario Sironi works via donation

The GAMeC collections in Bergamo are expanding through a significant donation of works by Mario Sironi, a master of 20th-century Italian painting. The acquisition was made possible through an agreement between the Municipality of Bergamo and art historian Andrea Sironi-Straußwald, the artist's nephew.

The donated works include a large preparatory cardboard for ‘L’Italia tra le Arti e le Scienze’, a monumental mural created in 1935 for the Sapienza University in Rome. This piece complements the ‘Figura (Grande nudo)’ already held by the museum, revealing they were originally part of a single compositional design. Other items include a sketch related to murals for the Bergamo Post Office and drawings for a tomb design. The collection will be presented on October 16.
