Mario Sironi art donation to GAMeC Bergamo
Overview
The Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea (GAMeC) in Bergamo is expanding its collections through a donation of works by the 20th-century Italian painter Mario Sironi. The acquisition was facilitated by an agreement between the Municipality of Bergamo and the artist’s nephew, Andrea Sironi-Straußwald.
The donated pieces include a large preparatory cardboard for the 1935 mural ‘L’Italia tra le Arti e le Scienze’, originally created for Sapienza University in Rome. This work complements the museum’s existing ‘Figura (Grande nudo)’, as both were part of a single compositional design.
Additional items in the donation consist of seven previously unpublished drawings, including a sketch for murals at the Bergamo Post Office and six drawings intended for the tomb of Sironi’s daughter, Rossana. The collection is scheduled to be presented on October 16.
