Gan Shundo's Summer Wagashi and Fukushima's Sweets Festival Celebrate Japanese Confectionery

Gan Shundo, a historic wagashi shop in Kyoto founded in 1865, introduced two new summer treats called "young trout" (若鮎). The sweets consist of a thick, fluffy castella‑type base filled with either white or matcha‑flavored mochi, presented in a bamboo basket. The shop highlights the product’s soft texture and seasonal appeal.

From July 3 to July 5, a "Summer Sweets Festival" was held at the Usui department store in Koriyama, Fukushima. The event gathered 39 local confectionery manufacturers, displaying 164 items including summer‑themed jellies and cooling Japanese sweets. Visitors praised the variety and the opportunity to sample regional treats in one location.
