Gangnam District Cuts Redevelopment Approval Time to 10 Days

Seoul’s Gangnam‑gu district, led by Mayor Kim Hyun‑gi, has reduced the statutory deadline for reconstruction project committee approvals from 30 days to 10 days. The change is part of the “Gangnam Redevelopment Acceleration Project” and relies on a new “team‑based simultaneous review” process that allows multiple officials to examine documents at once, cutting waiting times.

The first approvals under the new system were issued for the Ilwon Hansol and Daechi Seonggyeong apartment projects, with plans to grant further approvals by the end of the month. The district aims to shorten overall redevelopment timelines by more than 30% and advance project schedules by at least two years. Gangnam‑gu is currently managing 53 redevelopment sites and a total of 103 renovation, redevelopment and reconstruction projects, supported by legal and accounting counseling and resident‑conflict mediation services.

Mayor Kim said the reforms are intended to let residents feel tangible speed‑ups in the rebuilding process and to eliminate unnecessary procedural delays.
