Gangwon State strengthens livestock inspections ahead of Chuseok
Gangwon State is strengthening safety management at slaughterhouses ahead of the Chuseok holiday to prevent the distribution of substandard livestock products. As consumption of beef, pork, and poultry is expected to rise, the Gangwon State Animal Hygiene Testing Institute is enhancing its inspection response system.
The institute will oversee 10 slaughterhouses in the region, including five for cattle and pigs, three for poultry and pheasants, and two for black goats. To manage the seasonal surge in volume, the institute is coordinating work schedules and ensuring inspection personnel are available, even on public holidays.
Safety measures include live animal examinations, carcass inspections after slaughter, and testing for residual substances and microorganisms. Any products failing to meet established standards will be blocked from entering the market to ensure safe food supplies for the holiday.
