Gardaí investigate fatal Dublin assault and critical Meath collision

Authorities in Ireland are investigating two separate incidents involving serious injuries and death.

A man in his 40s has died at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital following an assault in Dublin city centre. The incident occurred on North Great Charles Street in Dublin 1 on Monday between 10:00 pm and 10:30 pm. Gardaí have established an incident room at Mountjoy Garda Station and appointed a Senior Investigating Officer. A woman has previously appeared in court regarding the investigation. Police are seeking witnesses and dash-cam footage from the area.

In County Meath, a man in his 50s remains in critical condition at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital following a three-vehicle collision on the R132 at Smithstown, Julianstown. The incident began around 2:06 am when two southbound vehicles collided. A third vehicle subsequently struck the rear of one of the cars while the driver of the second vehicle was standing outside his car. Gardaí have preserved the scene for forensic examination and are requesting information from motorists who were in the area between 1:20 am and 2:20 am.
