Gardaí investigate two fatal hit-and-runs in Clare and Limerick

An Garda Síochána is investigating two separate fatal hit-and-run incidents in the Mid West of Ireland that occurred over a single weekend.

In the first incident, 16-year-old Bryan Lowe was killed on Friday night near Clonlara, on the Clare-Limerick border. He was riding an e-bike/scrambler when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. Investigators are seeking the driver or occupants of a silver/gold Skoda Octavia, registration 05-C-5982, seen in the Clonlara and Castleconnell areas between Friday evening and Saturday morning. Some reports suggest the incident may have been a deliberate act following a dispute, and authorities are looking into potential links to local drug activity.

A second fatal hit-and-run occurred on Saturday afternoon in Rathkeale, County Limerick, claiming the life of a two-year-old boy, Peter Mulcaire. The child was playing on a toy tractor when he was struck by a jeep. A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, though he was released after providing samples. The vehicle involved in the collision also failed to remain at the scene.
