Gardening advice for late autumn planting and harvesting
As November approaches, gardeners are advised on the optimal timing for harvesting celery and planting tulips.
For celery, harvesting typically occurs between October and mid-November. While the vegetable can tolerate light frosts, the combination of low temperatures and excessive soil moisture increases the risk of rot and damage. It is recommended to harvest on dry days to ensure better storage quality and longevity.
Tulip bulbs can still be planted in November provided the soil temperature remains between 8 and 10°C and the ground is not frozen. Successful late-season planting requires bulbs to establish a root system before heavy frosts occur. Proper timing helps ensure better spring growth, though extreme cold shortly after planting can lead to delayed vegetation or stunted blooms.
